Silver, Freedman, Taff & Tiernan LLP was formed in January 2014 through the combination of two firms – the Washington, DC-based Silver, Freedman & Taff, L.L.P. and Washington, DC-based Elias, Matz, Tiernan & Herrick L.L.P. (both originally formed in 1972), creating a preeminent firm with a nationally recognized practice focusing on the representation of financial institutions and their officers, directors and employees.

Five Decades of Practice Experience

Silver Freedman incorporates each firm’s five decades of practice experience, with our attorneys having represented both issuers and underwriters in over 1,000 securities offerings raising more than $40 billion, and as counsel for both buyers and sellers in over 800 merger and acquisition transactions totaling in excess of $50 billion in deal value. Historically, the firms were recognized in the national press as industry leaders in the areas of mutual to stock conversions and financial institution mergers and acquisitions.

The establishment of Silver Freedman brought together attorneys with substantial expertise in regulatory, corporate and securities matters, capital raising activities, mergers and acquisitions and employee benefit and compensation matters. Our attorneys specialize in structuring transactions with start-up and private equity firms, assisting management in the establishment of employee benefit and compensation programs, developing and implementing corporate defense planning and tactics, and providing real estate, intellectual property, litigation support and tax planning advisory services.

The attorneys of Silver Freedman assist numerous community banks with corporate, securities and regulatory matters. In addition to our financial institution clientele, our attorneys represent manufacturers, retailers, distributors, medical practitioners, technology firms and restaurant chains.

Our attorneys routinely provide counsel before and have strong relationships with, federal and state banking and securities regulators.
